Our Technology Partner Amazon Web Services (AWS) was present at MWC 2023 in Barcelona, to announce its new technologies in cloud provider services with the goals of decreasing operational expenses, shortening product development cycles, and increasing the rate at which new technologies can be introduced into telecommunications networks.

Public Cloud Providers At MWC 23 Lure Telecommunication Companies – Forbes 2023
At Mobile World Congress 2023, public cloud providers showcase their offerings in an effort to entice telecom companies. Here are the highlights of the announcements from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
Amazon Web Services at MWC
AWS has two key announcements – the new RAN offering in partnership with Nokia and the AWS Telco Network Builder. AWS and Nokia jointly announced a Cloud Radio Access Network (RAN) solution at Mobile World Congress, combining AWS’s infrastructure and cloud services with Nokia’s new In-Line Cloud RAN SmartNIC and Cloud Native RAN Software.
According to AWS, there are three main issues that this unified solution aims to address:
- It simplifies integrating and deploying a disaggregated hardware and software product stack.
- It delivers carrier-grade RAN performance in a single server with a high radio density.
- It streamlines and accelerates the configuration and ongoing maintenance of the RAN system after its deployment in the field.
The second announcement – AWS Telco Network Builder – is an interesting one which came a week before MWC23.
AWS Telco Network Builder (TNB) is a network automation service that simplifies and accelerates the deployment and management of telco networks on AWS while adhering to telecom industry standards. With AWS TNB, network needs are specified based on telecom industry standards. AWS TNB automatically provisions the appropriate compute, storage, and networking resources by mapping the requirements to a cloud architecture. It streamlines network lifecycle management by enabling the deployment, updating, and upgrading the network functions and services. Additionally, the service provides a unified dashboard for monitoring and managing network activities and AWS services. TNB is built on AWS’ managed Kubernetes service offering – Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS).
AWS TNB supports European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) standards for deploying network functions and services on general-purpose compute infrastructure. The service complies with the ETSI Management and Orchestration (MANO) standards, allowing high-layer service orchestrators to make calls instructing AWS TNB to establish, upgrade, manage, scale, and delete network functions.
